I know Call of Duty Black Ops 2 isn’t due to be released for another 6 months. But I hope they listen to its player base (uh me!) and address the issues that have been bugging me (and most likely you!) as well.
Read on as I talk about theFeatures Black Ops 2 Must Address to Be Successful!
Network and Connection Fixes
Although this addresses those who play Zombies as well. Treyarch really needs to get a laser like focus to work on fixing the ongoing network issues with the Call of Duty series in general.
With Black Ops it was Host advantage and hit markers. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to embed my controller in my big screen TV because of this! Now with Modern Warfare 3 it has gotten a smidgen better but they have screwed the pooch when it comes to lag.
Treyarch needs to really try and figure out how to get a balance of play ability without ruining the gaming experience. Of course the ideal solution would to be 3rd party servers like PC users enjoy – but the cost would be prohibitive.
I know I could write an entire book on the issues that need to be address when playing Multi Player in general on consoles today. But Call of Duty and Treyarch have an opportunity to try and address these before the game is released!
In Black Ops a lot of players ran around with the Famas or AK74U (Guilty!). Don’t get me wrong most of the guns were awesome! And they did a proper nerf with Shotguns so that people using them had to be GOOD and not be able to spam shot halfway across the map and still be able to kill you.
With Modern Warfare 3 its all about the Sub Machine Gun and Akimbo Machine Pistols. I should know… I use one about 99% of the time. MW3 has been pretty horrid when it comes to assault rifles – as most of the maps don’t really play to their strengths.
So this is a tough one. For me I truly enjoyed most of the guns in Black Ops. Even with the lower level guns you still had a chance at doing really well in a map. My hope is that they continue this trend with Black Ops 2!
OK, this has been a gripe of mine since the beginning. The match making system sucks. It always has and probably always will. It would be my hope that if you are going to be using the ELITE Clans again – that if there are 4 members of Clan in a group – they get tossed into a lobby against another Clan first! This way those who pub will be playing against other pubs instead of a whole Clan and get wiped off the map in 45 seconds.
That and if you could try and make it so players at lower levels can be matched together. I know this will take some pretty heavy coding to get it figured out – but I’m sure it could get done within 6 months!
Address Host Issues
It would be nice if they could figure out an algorithm to ping the lobby and whoever has the best ping gets chosen as host. Of course you would need to do this when the lobby has “stabilized” (meaning people aren’t hopping in and out of the game). That and take away Host Advantage. You should be able to find out a way to moderate the connection so it is set to the average ping of the lobby and adjust it for the host accordingly.
Optimally – this would mean the players would end up in more quality lobbies with lower pings if you did this. Unfortunately I only know of the idea.. don’t ask me how to implement it. You guys are the code geeks!
DON’T RENEW THE EXCLUSIVITY CONTRACT!
Yes, this is a huge one. Nothing will divide the Call of Duty community more than if you renew the contract with Microsoft. Don’t be greedy. You already have Call of Duty ELITE which you are already bilking players for $49.99 a year!
Plus even though you never said anything when Call of Duty ELITE (I’m looking at you Activision!) was released that PS3 players were still going to have to wait 30 days. It was presumed and assumed by the community if they purchased ELITE Premium they would get the maps the same time as Xbox Live! players would.
Nowhere on the site did it state this, but by omitting the fact that PS3 Players were going to still have to wait you are guilty of not providing the entire truth. So avoid the fiasco – and don’t re-up. And no.. this doesn’t mean jump ship to Sony and make Xbox Live! players suffer either.
I don’t know though. In the end I will probably just end up buying it bugs and all. It would be nice though if Treyarch listened to it’s player base and fixed the issues that are inherent with the game though!
