These are my 7 Issues Sony Must Address to Make the Playstation 4 ‘Orbis’ Successful. Failure at even one of these will spell doom for a company that is no longer in the shining spotlight of today’s technology. I wrote an article last week about the Rumors Flying Around the New Playstation 4 ‘Orbis’ and ended up with this article coming out of it. Weird how that works sometimes. I thought to myself – how is Sony going to be successful with this new console if…? And off to writing I went.
Get a Jump on Microsoft
Sony needs to get the jump on Microsoft. This is a no-brainer. They will need all the sales lead they can get because as soon as the next gen Xbox is released it is going to be tough to compete with.
This is yet another no brainer. With the Anonymous hack last year Sony’s reputation is tarnished. They will need to do everything in their power to beef up security and try and improve consumer confidence for their brand if they want people to buy their new Console.
Address the Network Issues
If Sony was really smart? They would look really hard on how to provide a better multiplayer experience with the console. Work with the game companies and try and come up with a better solution than they currently have. Because frankly… it blows goats right now.
Sony needs to really put in some serious thought on their interface. The current one is clunky and just
plain old. I don’t think it needs to be like the Xbox’s crazy new Dashboard which looks like a cheap Vegas
Billboard. But they need to come up with something that is exciting and intuitive for users (with LESS ADS).
Better Multimedia Experience
Sony was ahead of the game until Microsoft/Xbox cranked out their new dashboard. Sony already offers Netflix and Hulu Plus. They really need to play some catch up and offer the same services as the Xbox does currently. I would consider this another requirement in order to try and target those who don’t play video games looking for a great multimedia device.
I had primarily purchased the PS3 because it was one of the best blu-ray players on the market at the time after all!
Better Game Library
Another MUST is having a great game library and more Playstation exclusives of games people will want to
actually play. Don’t get me wrong – Sony does have some great games such as Little Big Planet, Infamous, Gran Torismo, and Uncharted. But what Sony lacks is that “Halo” that draws people to want to use a Playstation for more than viewing blu-rays.
Easy to Port for Game Developers
The most critical aspect of all of this? Make it easy for developers to port for the console! This sounds
like another obvious thing – but how much are they looking into this at the moment? If Sony was smart they would make sure their SDK (Software Development Kit) was rock solid to make sure Games are easy to port to the system.
As you can see Sony has quite the daunting task ahead of them. What do you think Sony will need to do to make the Playstation 4 successful?
