9 Awesome Tools Bloggers Need for Their Smartphone

If you have an Android or Apple smartphone and you are a Blogger? These are my 7 Must Have Tools Every Blogger Needs for their Smart Phone. I know I can’t live without them!

Gmail

gmail for androidThis is probably the best application I have for my phone. I have most of my Blog email forwarded to my Gmail account. It makes it easy to keep up to date and respond to important emails as I get them. Even while driving down the road to Kansas (like I’m doing now).

Evernote

evernoteI don’t know how I wasn’t using this application before. Evernote is awesome in so many ways that it would take an entire article to write about it!  For me it is my virtual brain on the internet. I can save notes, website snippets, pictures, ideas, thoughts, or just about anything I can think of on Evernote. And the cool part is? I can easily pull it up on any computer I have it loaded/synched with and pull up that information easily!

WordPress

WordPressYup, there is a WordPress app for your phone. I can’t tell you how valuable a tool this is! It is your Dashboard (for both self hosted and WordPress.com sites!) to your blog. From within this application I can moderate comments, install or update plugins. I even did the WordPress 3.4 update from my Android HTC One X while house sitting lol. (NOT RECOMMENDED) But I did backup and was near a computer if needed. Needless to say this is an awesome app that bloggers shouldn’t live without!

Analytics

google analyticsIf you’re like me you would like to know how your site is performing throughout the day. If not for anything else but to make sure that your site is up and running.  I use the “live” view to see how many people are visiting at any time through the day. But I also use it to check out things like my bounce rate, unique visits etc.  Either way this is an indispensable app that is installed on my phone!

Adsense Dashboard

adsense dashboardAlthough this isn’t the an official app of Google I still love this app! It gives me “live” information on how my ads are performing on the site throughout the day.  This app gives you a current snapshot of the current day as well as the day before data. You can also see some awesome looking graphs on the overall performance of your site. But the only caveat is that the dollar amount listed down at the bottom of the screen? Those are your estimated earnings and will not be accurate. Still a nifty tool to add to the Bloggers arsenal no?

DropBox

dropboxDropBox has been an invaluable tool. Not only for storing backups from my WordPress blog here, but to easily upload pictures, documents, or anything else that I would like to later pull down from my smartphone to my computer. If you aren’t using a service such as this? Time to start thinking out of the box! (Pun intended lol!)

Twitter and Facebook

twitterThese are more honorable mentions than anything. They are both vastly improved from their earlier iterations. I had been using other apps like Tweetdeck but I’ve found that the default apps tend to work better for me now.  (Especially if you are starting to get a large following!)  Both are invaluable tools to keep updated and provide quick responses and maybe snag a follower or three while out and about.

Flipboard

flipboardI’ve written an entire article on this app so I won’t go into too much detail about it. I find this app indispensable for sharing interesting (and reading!) articles found from your networks or other popular magazines/websites. This app makes it so easy to find and share I don’t know how I could live without it now!

Closing

So now you see the apps I use with my Smart Phone to not only manage my blog here at avgjoegeek, but how I can stay in touch with you no matter where I’m at!

Now I’d like to hear from you! What apps (if any) do you use on your Android or Apple device to manage your blog? Leave a comment below !

Among all of them I am not familiar with Evernote, it seems interesting I will definitely use it.

I’m using Thomas Blackburn’s Analytics Pro on my iPhone, though I’m kinda like a rat that gets cheese by pushing the Analytics icon. Checking my stat has almost turned into a nervous tick for me.

I’m also finding Evernote to be indispensable, as well as OmniFocus for iPhone to help manage and prioritize my blog tasks.

The other app I use a lot is FeeddlerRSS to see when my favorite blogs, like this one, post new articles.

Bryan – lol I know that one. For me its the Adsense button as it comes up faster – to check the page views.

I wrote this article while on the road. It was crazy how easy it is to write when I don’t have a lot of distractions around me! Just wish I could be able to do that all the time.

Thanks as always for dropping by!

I recently did the unthinkable: I upgraded my smart phone… to a dumb one!

I found that I desperately needed the time to get away from my business and having the smart phone wasn’t helping much…

Let’s see if you still have Akismet running. ;)

Lol I do! But you passed! But I had cheated and had already approved your first comment which had been flagged.

Why the switch to dumb phone?

    • http://avgjoegeek.net Jason Mathes

LOL sorry was using my phone to comment. I see the reason why you have a “dumb” phone! It is difficult to not check your blogs health every 10 seconds when it is readily available. But I have become pretty good about NOT checking my apps when I’m with my family! (But it is very difficult!)

    Nice list of tools Jason.

I have iaWriter on my iPhone which is a nice minimalistic text editor and is awesome for capturing ideas.

Reeder and Pulse are also great to read on the go.

    • http://avgjoegeek.net Jason Mathes

Those are great too but I like how Flipboard presents the content for me.

I can’t get any of this stuff to work on my Motorola Razer.

    • http://avgjoegeek.net Jason Mathes

LOL Tim! Does that antique even text?

What happened to WordPress app? It is definitely something I can never live without.

    • http://avgjoegeek.net Jason Mathes

Ricky – it is number #3 on the list ;-) Thanks for stopping by!
