[ACS Tv] Android App Vlingo Review

The fine folks over at ACS (ACSyndicate) were kind enough to re-post their original article here on their review of Vlingo. You can read my original article Siri vs. Vlingo – Which is Better?  Make sure to give the article a read and go visit their site for a ton of content for the latest and greatest in the gadget world! – avgjoegeek

Vlingo is one of Android’s best answers to Apple’s “Siri” platform. It allows the user to control many functions of the device with their voice. By far this is the best Android app to use with a blue tooth headset as it is fully blue tooth compatible and even allows the user to set a keyword to initiate listening.  There are several commands that Vlingo will respond to including:

  • Send texts and emails
  • Voice dial
  • Search the web
  • Find local restaurants, shops and other businesses
  • Get directions
  • Update your status on Facebook or Twitter and check in with foursquare
  • Get answers to just about any question
  • Buy movie tickets and book hotel rooms
  • Open other apps

Check out the full video review below and head over to the Google Play store to pick up the app!

It is not the only app for Android that could be compared to iPhone4s’s Siri, but it is the best among them. I use it on my SGS1 and it is quite good in sending sms, searching the web for you or getting directions. The only draw back is that you have to speak very slowly so that Vlingo understands what are you saying or it is just my funny accent and the Vlingo is the perfect substitute for Siri.

I didn’t realize how bad it was – but when I’m not hooked to a headset and try and use Vlingo? I don’t speak clearly enough. It is great for basic stuff like looking for directions, or finding a restaurant but for everything else it is just easier for me to type it.

So we feel the same way about Vlingo. It is not such a bad app, but we must agree that it is no match for Siri, which is more ‘polished’ and clearly understands much better the voice instructions, even with a funny accent like mine.

Interesting! It’s like the feature ‘S Voice’ of Samsung Galaxy S3. If you have to speak slowly just to understand Vlingo what you were saying then it’s pretty hard to use it. Its still helpful especially for those who drives. I guess I’ll look forward to it’s enhanced version in the future.

It appears that S Voice isn’t working much better unfortunately.

Hey Jason thanks for sharing such a nice application. I am always very curious on knowing something new about android application. Vlingo is a great application as it will gives all the answers of our queries. I think it is developed under an AI (Artificial intelligence) platform or something like that which is used in Robotics. What you say?

Vlingo is great for very basic searches. But it still isn’t really that great an application. I can’t use it for things like updating Twitter or Facebook as it never interprets my voice correctly. It does use AI rather than Siri which has real people behind the scenes to assist users.

There is one in development that looks great but is still trying to get off the ground. I’ll have to try and find the link and post an article about it when I get the chance!

gotta speak pretty slow, but nonetheless it gets the job done.
