Call of Duty Black Ops II | ELITE is now Free?

Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-2-LogoCall of Duty Black Ops II is coming right around the corner. With it is the constant influx of news for the game. Today Treyarch announced that the ELITE service that we all love (or hate) is now going to be free! Take a look inside at what this means for those who previously paid for the service vs. the rest of those who didn’t!

Call of Duty Black Ops II ELITE Service

Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-2-IntegrationSo, Treyarch flipped the script. They decided with the release of the game instead of signing up for an ELITE Premium service you can sign up for ELITE free now. They will be offering the DLC package separately. While I personally think this is a great move I’m sure there are some folks who paid for the Premium service who are going to be pissed. Well Treyarch addressed this:

Q – Are you giving away all the paid content in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 to new free users who buy Call of Dut®y: Black Ops 2?
A – No, Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 Premium membership content will not be a part of the free Call of Duty® Elite offering for Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2.

What this means is a few things:

  • They are no longer offering any Premium services for Modern Warfare 3
  • There will be no Clan Leveling in Black Ops II
  • The Premium Content will be available until the release of Black Ops II  in November (or until your subscription runs out)

So What Do ELITE Users Get?

Take a look below at what you will get when you sign up for ELITE for Black Ops II:

player-hqPlayer HQ

Your Personal HQ – Track your Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 performance with rich game statistics, including enhanced match information such as heat maps and recent match data. Plus, track your challenges and modify your classes using Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2’s new Pick 10 Create-a-Class system.

Plus if you check out the video below – they talk about how you can copy other players class setups and add them to your own to check them out for yourselves!

Your Clan HQ – Join an existing clan or start your own, invite friends and then take part in Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 clan competitions with cool digital prizing.

Supposedly there will be a better Clan Search option with ELITE.

You can finally track your zombie stats online!

Launching with tablet support with Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2, the new Call of Duty® Elite TV will deliver a renewed community focus featuring developer tips and strategy programming, custom class overviews and more.

Unknown if this is only for Apple or if there is an Android version that will be available at release. I know that Android users had to wait a bit before the ELITE app was available.

Take a look at the video below as they discuss some more of the features of the new ELITE service.

black-ops-2-season-passSo What About the DLC?

Well you won’t get it with ELITE. They are offering the DLC content as a “Season Pass” for $49.99. The good news about this? You’ll save $10.00 off the cost of buying the DLC content piecemeal. Even better news? No more ELITE Premium users getting content first. The bad news? Xbox players will still get the content 30 days before anybody else.

*Note: I don’t know if all platforms will even be able to get all of the content. I’m thinking this is more for the Wii and WiiU rather than for PC.

See what you get below taken from the site:

  • Get 4 Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 downloadable content Map Packs, delivering a variety of new content, including Multiplayer and Zombies playable content.
  • Save $10, at discounted suggested retail price of $49.99*
  • Content expected to be available in 2013 – following the game’s launch on 11/13/12
  • Check for availability at your local GameStop or Best Buy

Final Thoughts

So what do you think about the changes that Treyarch is making with ELITE?  Personally I think this is fantastic! No more crazy Content Calendar to worry about. No more ELITE Premium vs. non-ELITE player nonsense. Will I be getting the DLC Season Pass? You betcha!

If you haven’t pre-ordered yet? I suggest you get your copy now before November hits! Call of Duty: Black Ops II (Hardened Edition)

Black Ops was my favourite Call Of Duty game. I played if for ever (still do sometimes). I now play MW3 with my son. I am probably going to purchase Call Of Duty 2 as a gift for my son, he is a big fan of Zombies and will love the Elite.

Black Ops is probably my favorite too. But I started with World at War – so I’m partial to any of the Treyarch versions of COD. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

I personally didn’t pay for the Elite when it came out. Sure I got the free version, but didn’t really think it was worth paying for. Now it’s free. Will that make me use it more? Probably not! lol! Us married men don’t have a lot of time :)

LOL if your in a Clan you would end up using it more. For me I rarely if ever used it except for getting material to post on here. It is great for getting game updates outside of the game too.

And I paid for ELITE originally as it was a $10.00 savings and the promise of different stuff that never really panned out really well in MW3.

I’m glad they are offering this free and split out the DLC – that was just a nightmare.
