If you wish to start a new blog in today’s blogging world? It is smart to start with a business plan. Sure you might have a great idea. But how do you plan on implementing it? Take a look inside as I go over how you should go about creating a Business Plan for your new blog.
Who is This For?
This is for bloggers wishing to become “serious”. If you plan on trying to make money with your blog? Then this is for you! If you want to make this a full-time gig? Then you need to start with this too.
Who is This NOT For?
The casual blogger. If your just doing this for fun? Like posting pictures of your cat? You definitely don’t need this! Go and keep having fun with your blog!
If you want to be serious about blogging with a specific goal in mind? Then I suggest you keep reading.
Why is it So Important?
Consider this the foundation your building for your new blog. If it is built on solid bedrock it will remain sturdy and be around for a long long time. Build it on sand and watch it sink.

Creating a business plan is one of the most important steps you will take because the plan serves as your road map for the early years of your business. The business plan generally projects 3-5 years ahead and outlines the route a company intends to take to reach its yearly milestones including revenue projections. A well thought out plan also helps you to step-back and think objectively about the key elements of your business venture and informs your decision-making on a regular basis.
Creating a Business Plan
I know this is going to be the most boring part about creating a blog. Who wants to sit down and write about budgets, goals, or how they plan on marketing their new blog? For me this is the crucial step new bloggers miss out on. A good Business Plan can be just a simple outline or a detailed one that has every item thought out and checked off. It will include goals and objectives on what you wish to achieve. In essence it is the instruction book on how you plan on being successful with your new blog.

Below are a list of Questions you can ask yourself and help you get a jump start with your own blog:
What is the Blog Going to be About?
This is important. What is your blog going to be about? Although experts say that you should focus on a specific topic or niche. What you really need to focus on is what you are passionate about. It could be anything that you love to do in your own life from a hobby to your job or just about anything you can think of. The important thing to remember is if you don’t love what you write I guarantee that your blog will fail.
For me I’m passionate about Games, Technology, and Blogging!
Who is Your Target Audience?
Understanding who your audience is will help you focus on how to market and promote your blog so it reaches the right group of people. Example: If you start a blog about Basket Weaving your target audience is not going to be those who are interested in Computers or Technology.
Are you Offering any Type of Services?
Do you plan on offering any type of services? This could be anything from offering consulting services, to technical services (i.e. computer support, WordPress installs etc..), designing or graphics, or just about anything else you can think of. I just watched a YouTube video where someone will provide guitar lessons over Skype!
Are you Offering any Products?
Do you plan on offering any kind of products? This could be anything from an eBook to a full blown online marketplace. You’ll need to think about how you are going to setup shop online. There are some great solutions out on the web to help you get setup quickly and easily.
How do you Plan on Promoting and Marketing Your Blog?
You’ll need to think about how you plan on promoting and marketing your blog. Are you planning on creating accounts for all the Social Media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest? Do you have a budget for advertising?
Need some help figuring it out? Here are some Resources to get you started:

What is your Budget?
Wait – you don’t have one? That’s OK – neither did I at first! I started with next to NO money when I started avgjoegeek.net. I had the domain and free hosting – but no idea what I wanted to do with it. Now a year later I realize that I had to come up with a budget and work it into the finances to keep the site up and running.
The good news is for very little cash up front you can get started fairly cheap to get online with your site. There are a ton of free resources out there for you to use from Email Services like MailChimp, to WordPress (free), Zen Cart (for online shops also free) and the list goes on and on.
Once you do get started and realize you wish to get serious? Then you will need to sit down and figure out a realistic budget on which you wish to spend for your online endeavors. There will be monthly fees for hosting, re-newing your domain, email services if you end up with a large number of subscribers, rss service etc. So get ready to plan ahead for these expenses so they don’t bite you in the rear when they suddenly appear!
What are Your Goals?
What do you wish to accomplish with your new blog? If you don’t know? Then you need to sit down and figure it out. This way you can focus on your goals instead of being stuck going nowhere trying to figure it out after your blog has been launched!
You can set your goals to whatever you want. An end goal might be “I want to make a Million Dollars Online in One Year!” which is a great! The reality of that goal is how do you make that first dollar then? You need to take that idea that is the size of a Mountain and break it down into steps to get there.
The great thing about setting goals is it gives you purpose. Whenever you feel lost you can always go back to your business plan and review your goals. You can even adjust them as needed!
Although this is not your typical Business Plan. It is still vital to have one setup for your new blog. With a solid Business Plan in place you are sure to work toward having a successful project!
