Back to school means time to shop for school supplies. The shopping list for back to school essentials does not look like it once did. Pencils, pens, paper, folders, and backpacks may still be staples for school, but there are a few other items that make the list, like a tablet. A tablet provides so many useful applications for school for all students, from elementary to college and beyond. In fact, many schools are starting to implement tablet programs for their students so that all students can have a tablet for work.
According to a Harris Interactive study, almost one third of students in grades 4-12 already use a tablet for school. The majority of students would like to move to mobile devices in the future, and the government, textbook publishers, and the technology industry is trying to make that happen. Until then, buying a tablet for your student will greatly benefit his or her education.
Tablets are on the move to replacing textbooks. The federal government and textbook suppliers are trying to replace textbooks with tablets in the classrooms to save money. Some colleges have already implemented similar programs. Many textbooks are already available in a digital format for students to download and read using an e Reader or tablet. Many tablets, like the Nook HD, even allow you to make notes and highlight while you are reading. Writing in textbooks in a public school is a big taboo, and even in college, if you are planning on reselling it, you want to keep it in pristine condition. With a tablet, you can read, write, take notes and take all your textbooks with you anywhere you go, whether to the library, the beach, or the coffee shop, much easier than with a laptop.
Tablets are also great resources for taking notes and doing your homework and other schoolwork. If you have a research project, big or small, you can use the Internet capabilities on your tablet to perform all research. Many public libraries also offer downloadable eBooks to borrow, expanding some of your ability to research. Any online journals or other scholarly work is also available via a tablet. Furthermore, with the combination of many apps that let you create documents with ease, and with the ability to save all your work on a cloud drive, you do not really even need a computer anymore. You can just use a table for all your computing needs, especially if you use a wireless keyboard.
Online Class Interaction
Many teachers now utilize the Internet for classroom support, including programs like Blackboard or blogs. With a tablet, you can access all of the online classroom information and assignments with ease. Additionally, tablets are light and easy to carry around with you, so if you have forgotten to do your assignment and you are out with friends, you can quickly whip out your tablet and complete your assignment, preventing any bad grades. Tablets are smaller, lighter, and often less expensive than laptops yet offer many of the same benefits, making them the new essential item for all school shopping lists.
What Do You Think?
Personally I think its a great move to have students start using tablets for their school work. Books have become even more expensive to purchase, update, and have a student be responsible for. I’d love to hear your thoughts about the subject below.
