This is my top 5 smartphones for 2012. I know the year isn’t over yet. Yes I know there are some great new devices hitting the market. But they won’t be out for a little bit and I’m impatient. So read on for my top 5 smartphones for 2012.
Really? Another Top 5 List?
I know these lists are highly subjective and biased. This list isn’t really any different. But it is based on the fact I’ve actually at least played with these phones even if I haven’t had them in my pocket. And I’ll list what I like and don’t like about each phone. I’m going to start in reverse order from the bottom of the list to the top so here we go:

5. Nokia Lumina 900
I was actually on the fence and wanted to put the Samsung Galaxy SII or Note on here. But then I thought I would throw a dog a bone. Lord knows Nokia needs all the help it can get. And by throwing all of its virtual eggs into Microsoft’s basket it could very well spell the end of Nokia.
But all that aside this is a nice phone. Not a great phone. But a decent smartphone. I actually like both the overall design of the phone itself and the use of tiles in the Microsoft OS. And I imagine it can only improve with the Windows 8 version coming over the horizon. Couple that with the release of Windows 8 it might turn into a win for them?
4. Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Global)
How can you not love an AOSP device? This is running the pure version of Google’s Android. That means there are no fancy overlays, no addons or bloatware, just the Google OS and Apps. Another bonus for owning this phone? It is usually the first to get updates to the latest version of Android. Not to mention it looks sweet. It is just too bad it doesn’t have the processing power of the phones later on down the list. But if you want the “pure” experience with Android? I would suggest getting this phone!
3. HTC One X
This is my personal favorite and daily driver. I still absolutely love this phone. From its overall sleek design, to its screen size, and its raw power under the hood. This is an awesome phone! It makes third on my list due to the fact that you can’t replace the battery or add an SDCard to add additional storage to the phone. That and HTC Sense overlay kind of lags the phone a bit.
This phone is still a winner in my book! It just sucks that it is being over-shadowed by Samsung and Apple and is soon going to fade out in the fast paced world of smart phones. HTC is going to be releasing the One X + soon so who knows maybe that phone can breathe some new life in the smart phone company?

2. iPhone 5
Yes, the iPhone 5 makes number 2. I know Android purists are booing me right now. They would rather see this phone thrown into a volcano I’m sure. But it is a great device. They have improved on the overall design and stretched the screen out a bit without widening it which is actually a good thing! That and they brought it up to today’s technology finally by adding LTE service to it. Plus it is still the same fluid Apple experience you would expect from an iPhone.
Even with the pitfalls of removing YouTube in the release of iOS6 (Source: Endgadget), the shoddy Apple Maps, app (Source: Apple Insider), forcing users to have to ditch all of their old iJunk due to the new USB connection and the “Purple Haze” Camera issue. It is still a great device.

1. Samsung Galaxy SIII
This is on my top of the list for a few reasons. It is truly a powerful device. It has a larger battery and screen. And I think the screen quality is better than Apples iPhone. You can also access the back panel and replace the battery and add additional memory if needed as well.
The few things that bring it down though? I personally hate the overall design and the plastic poly carbonate shell. I loathe with a passion the use of the TouchWiz interface. And the extra “features” it offers seem more like gimmicks rather than real world use. And don’t even mention S Voice.
But hey, at least it has a working camera, Google maps, YouTube, and you can still use your USB cables from your old phone.
