Why You Should Get a Case for your iPhone or Android Smartphone

by Jason Mathes on October 26, 2012

Y U NO HAVE CASE FOR PHONE!!!

If you were an iPhone 4 or 4S owner? You already knew the answer to this. Two pieces of glass sandwiched between aluminum was a disaster waiting to happen!  Now if you have one of today’s hottest Android phones with their huge screens? They seem to want to test Newtons Law of Gravity at any chance they get.  This is why you should get a case for your iphone or android smartphone!

Who Me? I Don’t Need A Case For My Phone…

It will happen – that day it either falls out of your pocket or you accidentally drop it.  You will watch as if in slow motion as it smacks the cement screen side down and your feeling of impending dread as you reach down to pick it up.

As you look at the smashed screen – you will ask yourself

“Why Didn’t I Spend the Extra Dough On a Case?”

I had that moment the other day when I was putting my son into his car seat. I had my phone in my jacket pocket instead of where I usually keep it (safely in my pants pocket) and it slipped right out from about 2-3 feet above the ground and I watched in horror as it smacked the concrete display side down.

I picked up the phone and this is what it looked like:

If only I had bought a decent case for the phone I wouldn’t have to pay the replacement fee of $200.00!! I even had insurance but AT&T charges a **deductible for people dropping their phones or accidentally getting them flushed down the toilet!

** I would suggest finding out what your cost would be to replace your phone. AT&T charges starting as low as $10.00 all the way up to $199.99 for higher end phones like the iPhone or OneX

Why YOU Should Get a Case for Your iPhone or Android Smartphone

Let me list a few other reasons why you should get a case for your phone:

  • If it is in a case it is less likely to get scratched, dinged, scraped, chipped etc. Which helps when you decide to get rid of your phone for that new one.
  • The likelihood of having your screen smashed from you dropping it is lessened dramatically.
  • If you get a good quality case? Some are even waterproof! So If your child decides to see if your phone can float you won’t have to float for a new phone!
  • Protect yourself from possibly losing your data! If a phone hits the ground hard enough the impact can do more than just crack the screen. It could jar loose internal components causing the phone to stop working altogether.

Consider a Case Your $50.00 Insurance Clause

So, I will be getting a new case. And I’ll be getting an Otterbox. Even though they are a little more pricey, and bulkier than other cases. I know it will be virtually bullet proof!

Even if you decide to not go with Otterbox? I still highly suggest you get a case for your phone. The inevitable day will come when it accidentally gets dropped, or falls, or slides off the top of your car.

Either way – Please – get a case for your phone and protect not only your phone but your data and your wallet! Spend the few dollars for a quality case now or end up paying for it later.

What type of case do you use for your phone? Share with me what you use, how much it cost, and whether you like it or not!

    Hi Jason,

I just bought a Smartphone, and I was sure to buy a case for it and take out insurance. I’m always dropping things and this costs too much to lose. Sally

Unfortunately for me I did not purchase a case. Why bother? I had my old phone for over 2 years and it was fine! But the new larger phones with ginormous screens? They seem to be more susceptible to getting their screens damaged as I recently found out.

And even with the insurance through AT&T it is going to cost me $200.00 to get the phone replaced!! So for now I’m looking at the screen through a spiderweb of cracks. But at least the phone still works!
